Practical technology help for small businesses

Less paperwork. Less repeated typing. More time for your business.

I help businesses replace paper forms, organise jobs and connect systems, so information gets where it needs to go without extra admin. From collecting customer signatures on an iPad to checking event staff in with a QR code, I build practical tools around how your business works. I can also fix and improve the websites and software you already use.

How I've helped other organisations

Helping a national rail engineering company get invoices out sooner

The problem

Engineers took printed job forms out with them and needed a customer's signature before the office could invoice. Signatures were sometimes forgotten, forms became damaged or paperwork stayed in the van. If job details changed, the office had to phone the engineer with updates.

What I built

A digital system that lets engineers open their assigned jobs on an iPad, see updated information, add photos and videos, and collect the customer's signature on screen.

What changed

As soon as the engineer submits the form, the signed details, photos and videos are saved and available to the office. Staff can invoice without waiting for paper forms to come back.

Making check-in easier for event stewards at large events

The problem

Organisers used a shared spreadsheet to manage thousands of event stewards, but people could accidentally overwrite each other's information. At the entrance, checking someone in meant searching through pages of printed names.

What I built

A QR code check-in system that works with phones or scanners. Scanning a code displays the steward's department, supervisor and whether they're authorised for early entry.

What changed

Stewards can be checked in in seconds, without searching through piles of paper, and the entrance team can immediately see the information they need.

Sound familiar?

  • “I'm entering the same information in several places.”
  • “Our website needs attention, but I don't know where to start.”
  • “Everyone's talking about AI. What could it actually do for us?”
  • “We have lots of apps, but they don't work together.”
  • “We need someone we can turn to when a business system goes wrong.”
  • “We have several suppliers, but nobody overseeing the whole picture.”

Practical help where you need it

Websites and business applications

Fix problems, improve features and maintain the websites and software your business relies on.

Microsoft 365 and SharePoint

Organise business information, improve collaboration and build useful forms, permissions and workflows.

Automation and connected systems

Reduce repeated typing and manual follow-ups by connecting your existing tools and simplifying everyday processes.

Internal business tools

Create practical tools for managing jobs, equipment, approvals, reporting and other business tasks.

Ongoing technical support

Have an experienced technical contact for troubleshooting, improvements and coordinating with your existing suppliers. We’ll agree the systems covered and the support you need.

Practical AI support

Work out where AI could save time, help your team use it effectively and build it into your existing processes where useful, with checks before important actions.

What that could look like

Examples of possible work, depending on what your existing systems support.

  • Website enquiries appearing in your customer or order tracker.
  • Booking confirmations and follow-up reminders sent automatically.
  • Information moving between your existing systems without repeated typing.
  • AI turning customer messages into organised details or draft replies for you to check.
  • An AI-assisted enquiry form that helps customers explain what they need and turns their answers into an organised brief for your team to check.

Three ways to work together

  • Fix a problem: focused help with a specific issue.
  • Improve a process: a clearly scoped development or automation project.
  • Ongoing support: regular technical help or part-time technical leadership.

Technical direction without a full-time hire

If your business has several systems or suppliers but nobody overseeing the technical direction, I can provide fractional technical director support: regular, part-time help with technology decisions, priorities and delivery.

  • Plan practical improvements around your business goals.
  • Review software choices and supplier proposals.
  • Coordinate developers and technical suppliers.
  • Guide projects and get hands-on with agreed development work.
